Quite a number of fair points have been raised on this topic but I think the key issue may actually rest with "if those who are entrusted with it, are trained and can act responsibly"

Maybe we should have a poll on members experience on dealing with so-called parts staff at their local dealers regardless of manufacturer. It may help other members to avoid some difficulties and help dealers see the problems from a different view.

From persoanl experience I have found parts staff at independent motor factors to be more knowledgable and helpful than most official dealers

Its more common than you may think Paul, I constantly have problems with my Clio2, as some muppet when the car was being registered (dealer/ Renault UK/ DVLA etc) put the chassis number down as BB05 instead of BB0S ... an easy mistake, but as most of the dealers and factors use your reg. number when ordering parts, then its a pain in the ass ... as that simple transposition changes the engine in my Clio from a E7J to a F4R, also removes the ABS from the braking system ... so engine parts and service items become a nightmare

Why is it the older I get .... the better I think I was ?

well i know us vaux lads can get Vauxhalls own EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue) that the delers thamselves use to find parts and numbers which has all the blow out diagrams of every part of every car vauxhall have made for the past 20 years and theres also vauxhalls TIS which covers there mantanance bays which covers diagnosis labour times and service info. i am shore renault have a simler system you just need to know some one that can get a copy. ( ebay for the vaux one)
but as the renault modding sene is not very big its prob not been worth some one coppying these things but you never know, just get very frendley with the workshop maneger and he might give you a copy.

can come in handy when refitting things because you can see what goes were and also when ordering things because you just ring up and say can i have 3 GMVX02495032010 and thats it no messing. also good to see what bits off other cars fit on other things and so on and so forth

Catalog in South America

Friends, Thanks for your replies. I live in Lima, Peru with the Scenic. I also have a 1986 BMW, and I use a lot the electronic catalog parts to look for the parts I want to change. I don't see why would be complicated to have the same for our renaults. Here in Lima, the renault service is really bad, and an e-catalog would be great for many of us.
