These things happen very regularly at the end of the financial year (local authorities spending their budgets like mad).
Check your insurance policy to see if windscreen cover is included (or if there is an excess).
If it is covered, contact a repairer who will bill your insurers directly.
If it isn't covered, you may wish to try an independent (for example, I would take £25 for a repair).
If you want to leave it until the end of the month (salary), then use a small amount of superglue to plug the chip, this will prevent water & dirt from entering, and provide a bit of strength to the surrounding area (which will prevent it becoming larger/cracking).
