Renault Fuego - anybody got one!

I've just been talking about the forums with the missus and was mentioning that selwonk had a R5 GT Turbo when he was a young 'un. She reminded me that when I was 18 - yes we've been together that long - we went to look at a Renault Fuego Turbo , I'd forgoten all about it, but the memories flood back. It was black with, IRRC a beige interior but it was the absolute dogs! I can still picture the garage where I saw it - happy days

I didn't buy it and very soon afterwards I got my first company car - a brand new Nissan Micra 1.0, bit of a difference I know and have had one (a company car, not Micra) until earlier this year when I 'opted out' and bought the bus and the 911.

She also reminded me that I desperately wanted an MG Metro Turbo around that time too

The innocence of youth eh

The poor man's Alpina:

They were pretty classy in their day! Last time I discussed the GT Turbo with the guy who sold it to me years ago, there was mention that they were building new ones with Clio interiors (or at least the new Clio dashboard). I've not spoken to the guy since but I'll find out. I'd still love a GT Turbo now I know how to drive properly!

OMG! Now I've seen the pictures of the Fuego, it's reminded me of the one I used to see back in my youth when I used to go with my Grandad 'over the fields' with the dog on Sunday mornings.

This is because it was, literally in a field. It had been used as the getaway car and burnt out in the field. There was an open safe next to it.

And there it remained and you can still see the real basic frame and a couple of springs now!

The safe has long gone though (and was empty when we found it)...

I fondly remember the 2.0 GTX model.
Oh I would love to have one of those.
