i have a renualt laguna 19dci estate with the following problem

when i drive car it runs fine for a few hours then goes into get home mode - however once i re start it it runs ok for another while. then same thing happens again.
i went to renault who thought i owned the bank of england and they quoted 69.00 pounds per hour to check it so i declined.cos they wouldnt say how long diagnostic would take.
right i have a friend who is a mechanic but never delt with renaults. he put diagnostics unit and it comes up with the following: 233-preheater plugs circuit
332 intake air circuit.
can any one explain these codes so as i can fix it - he reset codes andcar runs again for another while but he -not being a renault mechanic does not know what it means any help would be great

The 'pre heater circuit' is the glow plugs. On a common rail diesel the glow plugs aren't used very much,so you wouldn't know wether they're working or not. These won't cause your problem, though.

The 'intake air circuit' fault,I'm not sure about. It may be a turbo boost fault,or any other number of faults, but this,I suspect,is the one causing your problems.

What scanner did your mechanic friend use?

Sounds like the same one I use!

I suspect that Renault haven't released the full software update for your car yet.....

Snap-on do offer updates to their scanners, although it depends on the one that was purchased.Otherwise it may be Renault only,I'm afraid....

As far as I know the dec superscan is the only currently available tool for the Lag 2 range which will give you a full picture and something nearer to the clip diagnostics tools used by the official renault techs.

If you take a look into the Laguna KB ( see link above ) you should however be able to find similar problems listed.

Webcode has previous offered similar advice regards checking glow plugs

See http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/electronics/4788-diagnostics.html?highlight=obdII

Also try typing the words "OBDII" into our search feature.

Glow plugs aren't difficult to check....

The only sure fire way to test them is remove them and put them accross a battery.Put a negative lead to the body and a positive lead to the top section(where the lead connects to when they're fitted to the car).If the tip glows red after a few seconds, the plug is O.K.If the glow plug glows half way up the tip or there is no glow, then it's past it's sell by date.A resistance check when the plug is in situ only tells half the story....

Any how, glow plug problems are not causing the problems in this particular instance,so your really better advised to get an opinion on the other code and go from there....

Webcode,are you out there???

laguna problem

thanks for the help so far the saga continues.
i took car today to yes renault for a diagnostics check . they came up with the following :
they told me the problem with car going into limpmode was caused by faulty glow plugs. it also showed up another sensor problem but they said this was cause car drawing in air some where but this would not cause car to go into limp mode.they quoted me 147.00 to replace the glow plugs. so i got them myself at a cost of 8.00 each and reset the codes.(some profit margin for a five minute job, wish i had trained to be mechanic)
now the code coming on now is only 1 but it says the following - code 397 boost presure sensor. i went to renault dealer who said. and get this i dont know what that is. what chance have i got with this reply. can any one help another small thing for every one as i have read these cars a very problamatic i have took out a waranty from warranties direct for 400 pounds they even assure me they will cover it even though its a private hire car. seams like a good deal as long asit is serviced at a vat registered garage. even covers wear n tear (but not in first 90 days)
