Potential RX4 problems.

Potential problems with the RX4. Where shall I start?
Excluding normal wear and tear, I've had fuel problems, removed completely the propshaft after bearing problems (and increased miles per gal at the same time).
Had anew turbo and air reader at 60k, two new catalytic converters due to the turbo (gave up with them in the end and got the exhaust co. to make me an pipe instead). Water sometimes leeks through my front sunroof escaping into the cab through the light console, water gets into my spare wheel area and I understand it can get into the cills and "sloshes" around. Mine's a diesil and sounds loud in the cab. Because of its mark, most parts have to be Renualt and cost an arm and a leg too. There, of the major probs I've had. All that said, I love the car and don't know what I'll replace it with when the dreaded day comes.
I hope this is of use to you and good luck!

I had the petrol version for 6 years (67,000 miles) from new.

I also had the propshaft bearing failure, a known weak point on this car, There is a thread on here about bearing replacement, which is a cheaper option compared to replacing the entire shaft as I did.

I also had an ABS fault that showed up as a rear wheel sensor. Since I sold the car (with the error) I read a thread that said there is a connector in the loom that can be cleaned a should resolve the issue.

I believe that the water in the boot can come in from a rubber seal on the boot door handle, whilst mine was showing signs of age, it didn't get to the point where it leaked.

Those are really the only problems I had with the car, and on the whole I loved it.
They are great in bad weather (snow/ice/floods) I drove mine through a 2 foot flood with no issue.
