sorry to hear that at least they are both okay - car's can be replaced

You know you've spent too much time on the computer when you spill milk and the first thing you think is, 'edit, undo.'
Currently in Lu's garage:
Renault Scenic 1.6 petrol

Never accept the first offer either. They will come back with a more realistic one the second time around.

As Lu says can be replaced. Squashy bits cannot.

TTBOMK, insurance is there so you can be put back to EXACTLY the position you were in before the damage occurred.

If your bro can't get the proper value (one that he is happy with) he can always demand that the car gets repaired to its former state.

When they write it off, it is because it suits their finances to do so (uneconomical to repair) but the owner can still insist on being restored to his position as I just described.

Maybe they can find him an equivalent car that he is happy to accept... Similar or better year, similar or better mileage, similar or better everything, but the crux of it is that they have to at least put him back where he was before the accident.

They will haggle and threaten and try to get away with giving him a chocolate biscuit instead, but they have obligations. Are they offering compensation for their injuries?

Of course, one has also to be fair and reasonable, as we all know.

If all else fails, tell him he can have my V6 Lag Initiale (Silver, 02, and 22k) for 7 grand or so.

Currently in vass20's garage:
Citroen Relay 2.2 HDi + Citroen C4 1.6 HDi EGS

Glad you family members are ok Ivor.. How did he roll the car ? Does the car have any outstanding finance to settle ?

I would not expect the insurance company to offer more than 1k to be honest..

Car was bought outright when new, no finance owing. Neither of them want to talk about what happened but no other vehicle was involved. Suspect that he just drifted to the edge of the road then went down a grass bank. (he's not the best of drivers and has already written a BMW 3-series off, about 12 years ago). Random checks on Autotrader today suggest that he should get around £2200 for the car - and little hope that the insurers will restore it to its former glory - it needs a new shell, for starters, and they are not cheap. It was "only" a 1.6 alize a/c, so almost bottom of the range anyway
Currently in Ivor_E_Tower's garage:
2014 Captur dCi EDC; 2014 Ka 1.2 Zetec; 2015 C-Max 1.6 TDCI
