Exclamation High mileages and oil consumptions

Hello Renault Friends,
A very strange thing happened to me regularily on long journeys to my Laguna: driving to Stuttgart in Southern Germany at very high average speeds, always resulted in an oil consumption of between 0.7 and 0.85 litres on the way down and virtually no oil consumption on the way back!
Nobody could tell me a plausible reason for this until one of my motorcycle racing friends told me, that, especially with synthetic and semi synthetic oils, it can take 8 to 10 hours of continuous driving at at least half load to "steam out" all the water that has been absorbed into the oil from the short distance driving in the UK. So there you are!
With best wishes,
Tom Ackermann

Highest Mileage Car.. post your mileage

Hi,
we have had 1.9d clios X2 one with 185,000 and with 178,000 on when the clock stopped and have done at least another 40,000 I must admit that they arnt the original engines although Kudos radiator stop leak whent in the secod clio soon after we got it due to head gone and we got atleast 50-60,000
out before we replaced the engine.
All of the techs out there probabaly hate the 'radiator stop leak' but seriously if in and emergancy of just skint, it is worth a go on and older car where you couldent justify the cost of head gasket etc. we have probbably done the best part of 200,000 miles with engines that would would have been scrap or cost more than the car was worth.
we also have a xantia with 247,000 miles on it.
