i had a 1996 Mk1 Safrane (2.2 12v) that started to die at 160,000 miles (head gasket).

more recently had a 1998 Mk2 Safrane (2.5 20v) c/o ebay and have passed it onto my sister with 180,000 miles and its still going as good as when I bought it with 133 on the clock...

now have a Vel Satis 2.2 dCi with a mere 74,000...

181,500 on a 51 plate Lag 2 1.9dci.
It still returns 44+/- mpg and isn't an oil burner. Cost a packet in running repairs tho - lol

Political correctness defined:
Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end

highest mileage car

reminds me of a friend of mine. he had a mk2 escort 1100cc, about 1975 vintage, he bought it new, had it rebored that many times , had to finally get another block, gearbox, diff all rebuilt, god knows what else, done over 300000ks when it finally wouldnt pass the mot test, anyway he was always going on about how well it had lasted him, must have cost him 3 or 4 times its value in repairs.still at least he stuck to his mindset, hated japanesse because of the war, never touch one of those he said, i see he was last seen driving a ford laser, a cloned mazda 323, made in japan. best car hes ever had he says, bloody japs couldnt build one as good as the ford laser, Morale is, we need to be practical, when it starts costing dough, lots of it, its time to admit its no good, and replace it. not wait till its cost a fortune in repairs.i guess if we all were like my friend, and kept fixing it, it would do a million ks, and cost a million bucks. mery Xmas everyone
