Smile Timing Belt

Can a timing belt, with not being fitted correctly, damage an engine, so that either the car has a new engine fitted or is scrapped?

The quick answer is yes.
It is possible to try and start an engine and bend several of the valves.
More damage would occur though if the engine was running and the belt failed.

Normally it is only neccessary to remove the cylinder head and replace the bent valves or replace the head. It's not normal to have to replace a complete engine but it has been known.

Hope this helps. Kind regards Oily.
