thinking of buying a laguna!

Hi, just joind his forum so Hi all!

Im after a bit of advice as im looking at buying a 1994 laguna RXE that a friends selling, its in good nick, met black and on 17s so looks a bit tasty! what should i be looking out for on these cars? the only fault im aware of is that the heaters sometimes dont get hot! (any ideas why this might be?) Also, was there ever a leather interior option on these as the seats look a bit dated and would probably be the first things id replace!

oh, hes asking 750 for it, but can probably knock him down 100, is this a fair price?
cheers for any responses in advance!

Hello ste123,welcome to the forum.

The heater matrixes have a tendency to block up.There is an in depth thread with pictures on how to cure this problem in the knowledge base. Also the resistor packs for the fan speeds can give problems, but this is easily remedied.

The only real common failure on early Lag 1's is gearboxes(both manual and auto).Check the inner CV gaiters aren't leaking gearbox oil ,and check the oil level regularly.

Apart from that, the 8 valve engines are pretty much bomb proof, spares are readily available(second hand and aftermarket) and unless your really unlucky you should have a good car.

I'd try and knock him down on the price a little, and go from there(nearer £600 would be reasonable as long as it's a good 'un).

Best of luck to you.....

Variants with leather do exist. The Monaco certainly had it, and I think the Executive might have too. It would also have been available as an (expensive) option on other models. But those cars make up a very small minority of sales, so finding a donor car with leather's going to be quite tricky, and I doubt a decent set of leather seats will come cheap.

I'd check to see if the rear carpets are wet, as the door seals quite often leak, and also that the heated rear screen works fine. Those are the problems i had with mine, and through reading this forum I found that these are quite common.

Apart from that i've put 25k on it in 3 years and apart from usual service items and tyres, i've only had to replace the front pads and a rear cylinder.
