EGR Valve problems

Hi all, just joined!
Need to know if i'm the only person to have problems with the exhaust gas recirc valve on the 2.2 dci.

Have had the car nearly two years and it has been a constant sorce of trouble, though I have cracked it now by removing it and cleaning it every few months but this is surely not entirely satisfactory.
The car cannot be relied upon, it tends to decide to go into "get you home " mode at very embarrassing times, last time doin' 70 plus in the outside lane of the M5.
Can anyone throw light on this one?

Tell me about it....
Iv had over 2 grands worth of repair work done in the last month, not to mention the past 12.
I had the EGR valve replaced on my 2.2 DCI today as i often get the fault in fuel injection message. It was cleaned not so long ago but didn't work. So hopefully it's the last of the error message.
Just make sure that you oil is changed every 8K with fully synthetic oil , check that the intercooler is not bulging "if it is, the turbo should be replaced" as it is common for the seal to break down in the turbo forcing oil into the induction system, and does plasters the EGR valve with sticky gunge. There are plenty of topics on this subject.
Just check out the above before buying or replacing anything.

EGR Valve

Hello Sillioljim,
I have a 2.2Dci Espace with exactly the same trouble. Mine went on limp mode last December, fixed itself, and played up for the second time last week. The next day it cured itself.
Is it easy to get at and strip down? I'm assuming it's at the front of the engine. I'm sure I can hear mine rattling under load.
I was quoted nearly 700 last year to replace it.
Regards John.

EGR valve

I read on this forum some time ago the idea of having the valve welded open or closed (can't remember which) but cannot now find this thread.

This apparently permanently cures the problem.

Is this true?

Can anyone help?
