What makes brakes squeal is the brake pads vibrating in the calipers and rubbing on the caliper pistons, that is metal to metal contact, if you rub 2 pieces of metal together they will make a noise, because the vibrations are at a very high frequency the noise comes out as a squeal!
As above, a bit of grease ie. copaslip will lubricate the 2 metal surfaces and stop the squeal.
