Re: 2002 172 Cups - what should I look out for..?

Yes Cambelt andaux belt, see when they were last done, i have a 182 FF and its one thing i made sure was done, luckily i got the dealership to do it for nowt. Check the exhauts to as my 182's exhaust is a standard factory one and is made of steal and not stainless which means in 4 months time i will need another.

Should I buy a 172 ( from the fiat coupe owner)

Hi all

I am considering selling my Fiat coupe 20 valve turbo for something abit cheaper in fuel, as Iam going to try and save for a house deposit.

I currently get 27 mpg town driving and I do have a heavy foot.

My coupe is in great condition, and gives me a massive smile when I see it and drive it, but 30 in a few months and priorities change.

Any advice on the 172 would be great mpg, things to look out for when buying and so on.
My budjet will be around 1500 -1800.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: Should I buy a 172 ( from the fiat coupe owner)

Hello and welcome to the forum.(sorry for the delayed response).

I have added your post to another thread on the same subject,if you read back through you should pick up on a few hints.

As said, dephaser pulleys are a pretty common fault, once the engine is warm allow it idle and if you here a rattling noise from the top of the engine then the pulley is almost certaintly fubar'd.They can happily rattle for a long time, but they can be expensive to replace as the cambelt needs to be done at the same time, the pulley, belt kit, auxillary belt plus labour is getting on for 500 at an independant garage.

Hopefully others will offer their thoughts too.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Smile Newbie please help . thank you

Hi everyone ,

I am a bit of an Alfa nut who has recently taken a drive in a Clio Sport 172 and was very very impressed so much so that I am heading out to buy one tomorrow and was hoping to get some pointers on what to look for to make sure its a good car . My husband is working away abroad until November and he will not let me live it down if I buy a lemon so any help would be greatly appreciated . The car I am looking to buy is a 2002 172 sport .Its covered 74k and I am told the only issus is the remote locking fob not working .
Many thanks in advance

Have a look through some of these! I know most of the people who post on here about their cars have problems with them but maybe these are something to look out for and ask about before accepting to buy the car! There does seem to be a few nice posts too though
