New member and scared already

Hi all,

Just found the forum after purchasing a second hand Laguna Initiale Estate and though I'd see more opinion on it

Now I wish I hadn't

It is the 2.0l IDE engine and I'm now bricking it that it's going to give up the ghost

Can someone on here with a GOOD experience of this engine PLEEEAAASSEEE reassure me that it's not all a nightmare?
Here was me thinking I'd got a good deal and after doing the search it all seems to be balanced on a knife edge.

Here's the car for those who are interested. First time I'd seen this leather outside of the Audi TT as well!!

Hi there

With regards to the IDE engine, my previous Laguna was a 2002 '02' Privilege fitted with the 2.0 IDE engine.

When I bought it the car had 74200 miles showing, it had been my brother-in-law's company car from new, and up to that point it had been 100% reliable. Main dealer serviced and maintained, however it did lead a hard life as my brother-in-law does not hang about.

During my time with it, the only problem I had was dodgy tyre pressure sensors, which in the end I had disabled. My IDE never let me down at all, until I decided to sell it and buy something a bit newer.

I know the car's current owner and I still see the car regularly, and to date it has never let him down either, so I suppose it goes to show that not all the IDE 's were unreliable.

The Laguna I owned before the IDE was an early 2002 1.9dCI Dynamique. Great car but crap engine - 2 new turbo 's, a new clutch, a new gearbox, a new steering column, and a new window regulator, all before the car was a year old!!!!! Compare this with my IDE .

I hope my experience of the IDE will put your mind at ease a bit. Enjoy your new car and I hope its as reliable as mine was.

Thumbs up Golden rules ide

Don't panic

Hi I own a 52 plate ide 74,000 miles and love my car there are certain things you should know about these cars .
Change the oil on them frequently do not leave 17,000 between oil changes as dealer states . I would advise every 8,000 and bob in mobil 1 0 30 w kwik fit do this for 37.00 .
Also if you drive it steady before oil changes bob in engine flush and injestor cleaner as the engine can build up carbon deposites . If you thrash it dont bother
This next bit is very important only put genuine Renault spark plugs on this vehicle as i discovered and other members have fitting others lead to mis fire and poor fuel econ .
I have owned alot of vehicles and drive ones for a living and what I can tell you is my ide is the best car I have owned goes like the wind on the motor way I feel the failings of the bad reports are because of renault putting a ridiculous service interval on a performance car .
As others have said it a straight foward engine no turbo to blow
As all cars you get the occasional bad one built on a friday afternoon but as long as the cambelt has been changed and oil you should be fine if you have initale spec you have a top car .
If you need any help please just message me .

welcome to the forum...and dont panic.

remember that most people only use these forums to find help with problems they have...very rarely do people post "i have a 2.0l IDE engine motah and all is well,,thank you."

ide man has some sound advice and i hope you have many trouble free miles.

Thank you chaps

Nice to be able to breathe out again. I get the car on sunday so will post up how it performs and then keep my fingers crossed.

Is there a need to use super unleaded or not with this engine?
