Would recommend cleaning the plastic with a solvent and allow it to dry before fitting.

I would even consider a clamp to hold it in place overnight to ensure it bonds securely.

P.S. I wasn't telling you to get those one, but saw the costs for the ford ones escalating way out of control....

I know you weren't "telling" me Paul, thats not like you. Thanks for the advice re fitting. If I did clamp the reflectors overnight, some bugger from around my "slighty dodgy" neighbourhood would probably steal them.

Thing is the MOT isnt till November, so I dont know why Im thinking about it now. I'll probably forget about the reflectors by then, put the car in for its MOT, then be suprised when it fails.

Buy them now, and stick them in the boot.

It'll be something to reflect on closer to the date!

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

Dave,as an ex-tester,I'll be surprised if your car fails because the rear lights don't have reflectors, especially as your rear lights are in fact genuine items (all be it from a later car).

It's one of the things that gets missed quite often, but of course that doesn't make it right.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Re: Reflective tape - MOT Legal

As the bumper surface is likely to be slightly curved it may be necessary to bend the new reflectors (using gentle heat) into shape. Number plate self adhesive strips are fairly strong and stick first time (no need for clamps) as long as both surfaces are sound and cleaned with a solvent as Paul recommends.

If stuck-on number plates can withstand years of abuse including going through a car wash I think they should stay in place securely.

Re: Reflective tape - MOT Legal

My motorcycle is rather heavily modified on the rear end, This included the removal of the rear mudguard and number plate holder and took out the rear reflector.

When I took it to be MOT'd the tester had a sticky back reflector about 20mm Diameter that he stuck on the corner of the number plate. This seemed to satisfy his need to pass the bike.

This was some time ago tho, but it had 5 MOT***8217;s since.

I don't know if it would apply to cars, but felt it was worth a mention
