Question Should you Judge a Book by its Cover or its Part by its Packaging

Hey all,

Just a little anecdote!

Had a fault on the main beam, It would not stay on.
So realised it was the stalk as lights and relays were fine.
Checked part number and ordered new stalk

Proceeded to change the stalk, but there was something not quit right about it,
Fog light part of the stalk was different.

Guess what it did not help, lights were fine, but no the main beam and fogs would not stay on, but you could flash them!
So checked and verified part numbers, all added up.

Now what, Got an electrical expert to have a look, no idea what was up.

Ended up with Renault, went trough all the electrics, and diags and nothing.

So what now…..

After inspection of the part, it was realised that it was the wrong part,
But the right part was ordered, and we all thought the right part had arrived, as the packaging outlined what was required and ordered.

It was the wrong part in the right packaging, if that makes sence!

So as the title says

Should you Judge a Book by its Cover or its Part by its Packaging

Oh yeah and got the correct part and all worked!!!

Nightmare. Similar situation on the MG. They've only *just* sorted the parts supply out for them an my dealer needed a top rad hose. It came - after a month - and despite being the correct part code etc. just could not be fitted!

You'd be surprised how many times we have this happen at work.

It is really frustrating and can waste a lot of time....

Renault are pretty good in general as they usually put the part number on the item as well as the packaging. Not all manufacturers are quite so kind......

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
