Watch out for Renault's official towing limits, which are ludicrously low for the petrol Laguna II's. They're rather better for the diesels.
I've had a 2.0
and a 1.9dCi 130 now. The
was definitely much better for general driving, but the dCi wipes the floor with it when towing.
You'll find a lot of the quirks from reading the forums. Serious problems tend to be auto boxes, early 6 speed manual boxes on the diesels, turbos on the earlier diesels (that were originally run on the wrong grade of
) and the excellent to drive but potentially problematic 2 litre
engine (the later 2 litre
isn't quite as nice to drive but is much more reliable.)
If you're going for a diesel, then try to get a young, low mileage one and make sure it has a full (preferably Renault dealer) service history. This maximises your chance of getting a decent contribution out of Renault if your
does bite the dust. If it doesn't meet the age, service and mileage criteria, then chances are you won't get a bean.
