The only knocking noises I've had on Megane rear suspensions have been caused by broken shock absorbers, but I'm sure you or mechanic would have spotted this as they are easy to check.
Apart from that,I'm out of ideas....
Check the exhaust clearance between the body and axle when there is weight in the car,and have a good look at the mounting points of the rear axle.
I can't see taking it to Renault would help you too much.Try and find a Renault specialist in your area,or get your mechanic to phone a local dealer to see if there are any common causes of the noise. They might help, they might not, depending on how helpfull they are. We're lucky as there are two very helpfull dealers in our area that give out their information freely, others are a little more difficult to get info out of.
Hope this helps, and let us know how you get on.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
