Re: Looking To Buy My First Clio - Need Some Advice
My mum has had a couple of 1.2s - the old shape on an '06 plate and the new shape on a '59 plate. I've driven both and they feel very lethargic. If you want something sprightly it'll have to be a 16v petrol engine, probably of 1.6 variant. From memory I don't remember her having any issues with them, they were built solidly enough and are comfortable enough to drive, the chassis seems decent too. Just make sure everything works when you test them (we all know the rep French electronics have!)
You can always try a dCi diesel, I've never driven one but the insurance tends to be less for diesels.
No matter what advice people give you, at the end of the day the car has to feel enjoyable for you to drive. Your best bet is to get quotes on as many engine variants as possible, see which ones you can afford then go out and test them all!
