Re: Fuel pump won't seal in the tank

as long as the pump, seal and ring are refitted (even badley) your ok.

replacements from scrap yards are hard to get, as they usually all get decomisioned as per EU regs before being stacked in the yard
(therefore the tank has been punched and drained (big blue/green/red plastic plug sticking out the bottom of it) making it good only for squishing)
you have to pre-order the tank before a car comes in, so they can mark it for tank removal.

when i first did mine i got a replacement pump and ring/seal from a scrappers, i wrecked the rings grip pins and distorted the seal by over tightening on the original and replacement seal/rings.
i ended up having to walk to the dealership to get new replacement seal kit and special tool.

Spare parts available for 2001 Scenic 1.9Dci, 97 Lag1, 02 Lag2.

Re: Fuel pump won't seal in the tank

The retaining ring screw should screw on the full length of its threads easily by hand with the pump unit removed. If not then either the ring or tank threads are damaged.

Apart from Renault there are tank removal wrenches available from decent motor factors - see attached pic for a sample.

Re: Fuel pump won't seal in the tank

I have been looking for information on this issue as we have the very same problem with a 53 plate Diesel Clio we have , I have bought the seal etc from renault and was advised by the mechanic to empty the tank as much as possible before trying to fit the new seal etc , its also said that the swap needs to be done as quick as possible due to the problem of these tanks warping , At my work we have a very good sealant and I thought about using it but not sure if its a good idea as this stuff sets pretty much rock hard however if the new seal does not stop the leak I may try another sort of seal/gasket but as my wife just filled the car up we have to wait a couple of weeks or 600 miles before its near empty , damm you diesel Clio and your 62mpg lol
