Question Parts Warrenty

In december last year I finlly got my Laguna back after several months in the garage, apparently it took my mechanic a long time to figure out that the fuel pressure regulator was faulty in my 2l IDE , good job he was doing it in his spare time. Since then it has pretty much gone down hill to the point I had to buy another car to get around in as my car has got exactly the same issues and them some, cutting out when hot and going into limp mode, wont rev over 2000 when it's been running for about a minute, revs constantly dip as if it's trying to stall when in idle.

When my car started to go wrong again, it was exactly the same as before it went into the garage in the 1st place, so I am presuming it must be the new part which is faulty and have tried to get Renault to get me a new one which they agreed to on certain conditions.....

I take the car to them,
They do the work,
if the replacement doesn't solve the issue I pay them for it, which is obviously not cheep,
And I also then pay for any extra work they carry out on the car to get it fixxed.

Surely if the part is under warrenty, i should just be able to take it back to the garage that did the work in the 1st place and they shoudl be able to get the replacement part off Renault under the warrenty or am I wrong?

Re: Parts Warrenty

Hi Danny, and welcome.

I can see your perspective, but I would believe the dealer wants the part in situ, so 2 things can occur; 1. they can assess the repairing garage's work
2. the can run the diagnostics on the part, and all the vehicle's systems

Parts can fail prematurely if they have been incorrectly fitted, or as a result of some other consequential damage further along the line (neither of which would be covered under the parts warranty), and I'd be inclined to think this is why they are making you jump through this series of hoops.

Hope that helps to clarify their motives.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

Re: Parts Warrenty

wouldnt it be cheaper and quicker to get one from a scrapped car, least that way you can prove if its that part playing up.

there are some on ebay for 25-40 each

how much is a dealership supplied one ???

do you know if it is fitted in the fuel pump(sender unit) or on the fuel rail on the front of the engine ?

i just checked, i think its part of the sender unit inthe tank. so its a garage only job, as it needs a special tool to remove and refit safely.

Spare parts available for 2001 Scenic 1.9Dci, 97 Lag1, 02 Lag2.
everythings gotta go....
cheap prices...

Re: Parts Warrenty

If I remember correctly they are about £180 from the main dealer.

On my car it's the one on the front of the engine so it is very simple to change over, 2 bolts, unplug the wiring and it's off

Thumbs down Re: Parts Warranty

I know of 2 Renault mechanics who are very familiar with this problem with the IDE fuel pressure regulator. The modified regulator is no longer available as a new part in the UK and there is only approx 450 left in circulation. Renault insist on an exchange basis for the FPR and it is sent back to be modified/remanufactured, when they are all gone then thats it. This is largely the reason the IDE in its current form was dropped.
