Renault Laguna II - locking wheel nut cracked!

evening all! I have a flat tyre on my laguna - all the regular bolts came off with no problem, but when I tried to get the locked one off, the locking wheel nut cracked when I applied pressure (the key that adapts over the nut when placed in the lever - rather than the nut on the tyre). I had a spare - but this cracked too! Now I'm stuck and can't get the tyre off.

I'm about to call a tyre specialist out, but doubt they can do anything with a cracked key - and no doubt Renault will bang me for a fortune for a new one (which will probably also crack). Help! Any assistance gratefully received.

It's a 17" low profile - if that makes any difference.

Cheers, Ed

The only option you have is to try and remove the bolt using force....

You can try and bang on a socket to try and undo it,or you could get a specialist to remove it using some special left hand threaded sockets.

Where abouts are you?(anywhere near Gillingham in Dorset?...)

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Cheers for that - as I feared. Sadly not in Dorset (although was bought up in Weymouth though - hence a United fan - before you say it!). A bloody great hammer it is then!

If the puncture's not so bad that the tyre won't take air, then pump it back up and drive it to a tyre place. Give them the damaged key and ask them to have a go with their air wrench. The hammer action of these wrenches can be sufficiently 'shocking' to shift a damaged bolt, even with a damaged key. I had exactly this problem happen on one of my Lagunas once, and the air wrench got the wheel of without a problem.

My next question is - who last had the wheel off? It sounds like they've overtorqued the bolt. When I had this happen, I was lucky in that the car had recently been serviced by Renault and they'd changed the front brake pads. I was therefore certain that they were the last people to remove the wheel, and therefore certain that they must have overtorqued the bolt. After a bit of arguing, they still refused to admit liability but fitted a new set of (better) locking bolts free of charge as a good will gesture.
