Angry Re: Should I buy a mk11 Scenic?

Bought my 1.5 Diesel Scenic as a new 05 plate.....been a great car but many problems.....

Lower engine sensor gone after 2 weeks and 300 miles...two weeks in the gararge but covered under warranty
5 x window regulators gone ( total 1600.oo )
electronic handbrake just given up ( Total 850.oo )
Electronic dashboard replacement ( Total 487.oo )
Exhaust emissions sensor ( Total 167.00 )
Fan resistor module ( Total 170.oo)

All this in under 60,000 miles !

The car itself is a great family car, very comfortable and gets 55 mpg around town and up to 65mpg on a run
I really love the car but the repair costs are crippling.......

As for buying another.......not in this lifetime !

Re: Should I buy a mk11 Scenic?

Mk2 scenic will never be as dependable as the Mk1 as it is simply a much more complicated car!

If i was you i would get another Mk1 scenic on an 03 plate with low miles, you can pick up a monaco with around 40k miles and 16" alloys for around 2k now.

Engines are rock solid because there was no vvt at this time. For the small power gain, its simply not worth the cost of repairing constantly.

The mark1 scenic is a very reliable car as long as you avoid the diesels.

Hope this helps you make up your mind

Re: Should I buy a mk11 Scenic?

Thanks for all your input. Just got around to reading them as for some reason I am not getting notified of replies, even though I am set up to do so.

Things have changed for me at the moment. My trusty MkII decided to snap the cam belt, so I have just got back home on the back of a truck.

Mechanic is giving me a ring tomorrow with a price to fix it.

In reply to the 1.5 dci in the newer cars, I did test drive one the other day and although it was adequate, it was not as lively as my 2.0 16v and was quite noisy. It had 31k on the clock.

I was particularly looking at 7 seater Scenics but was quite surprised at the lack of space in them. The car is slightly longer, but the back seats and the middle row are so close it would make for a very claustrophobic journey. Moving the middle row forward simply meant that both rows had little room. Very odd for a car actually designed as a 7 seater.

I also didn't like the electric parking brake. It was not as instant as yanking up a mechanical handbrake on a hill and made for at least one dodgy moment during my test drive!

Overall, I think adamh is right. Get a 2003 model, with less miles than mine and in better condition. That's once I've got the cambelt done of course.
