Angry Service intervals

Has anyone else on this forum experienced this before? I have a Scenic II 1.9Dti Dynamique which started to display a "Change oil soon" indicator at 10K miles. I contacted 2 Renault garages and Renault UK who confirmed that the service intervals where 18K or 2 years whichever was the sooner. I then sold the car and the new owner then went to a Renault garage who confirmed, through Renault UK, that the servicing intervals for "this car" had been hard coded at 10K, in the factory in France, because the car was originally intended for the Cyprus market where the hotter climate dictated shorted servicing intervals. Renault UK have now also confirmed this to me that this is true and that UK garages are unable to reset the servicing intervals as programmed into the computer so therefore it is stuck with 10K service intervals for its life even though it will only be driven in the UK. So my arguement with Renault UK is what intervals is this car to serviced at to satisfy the warranty terms 10K as per the computer or 18K as per the handbook, why can't the computer be reprogrammed to reflect the actual driving conditions the car is going to be subjected to, and why do I have to rely on this misconfigured computer when a little bit of human judgement could be exercised?

I surely can't be the only person to experience purchasing an import who has had this same problem thrown at them.

I suppose if they say it can't be changed then you'll have to take it on the chin.

If you want to reset it yourself look here -

Mine is set at 18000 but I'll be changing the oil every 9000 anyway as I think 18000 is too long for the oil .

I think I have CDO. It's like OCD, but with ALL THE LETTERS IN THE RIGHT ORDER
