I'd say that a 1.6 should be giving you at least 38 mpg, never mind 26.

Another common problem that you can read everywhere on this forum is that relating to the spark plugs. Apparently, Renault ones are very expensive and dealers tend to put non-genuine replacement to save a few quid. The genuine ones are of a resistive type that are somehow screened from causing interference with the control units. So, that might be another avenue to explore being just visual.

Do let us know how you get on as I'm sure there will be other members who will have similar experiences. Incidentally, if you do need one or more ignition coils , it helps to shop around for them. There are several threads on this forum that give good advice.
What alex said above, also makes a lot of sense btw.

All the best,

The car should have 2 lambada sensors, one in the manifold and one after the cat. The one after the cat is normaly forgotten about when the exhaust is replaced.

Also If you believe the car to be faulty since purchase which it appears it has been then you have 6 months from purchase in wich to take it back to the garage to be fixed. They can either fix it or offer you a full refund and within a reasonable time otherwise they will have to pay for a hire car. I did this and the garage were more than happy to fix it.

I have the same engine and I get around 40mpg so I would expect 35+ for an auto so there is something wrong.

Finally sorted & the problem turned out to be 2 faulty ignition coils , the lambda sensorwhich was present on the car was not the problem.
the garage have fixed the coils FOC so they have admitted that they should have been working correctly at MOT.
anyway fuel consumption is currently 29.5mph and that is just taking the figures from local trips around town.

Happy days !
