Never ending Trafic story, or be careful with second hand vans

Hi. I bought a used Trafic van and i didnít know that its not going to let me sleep properly for 2 months till today ,when i found and sort ALL the problems. Hope this will help one day some of you guys. Sorry for my English. [no, Iím not Polish]

I bought this van for £2500, 2003 year, 130k miles. Irakian guy call him self Ally, I found him on Gumtree. As Iím watching road wars and donít drive with no insurance I let this guy to show me how is this van perfectly works. First he was driving like a mad what is nothing special in London and van cut of for 2 times on test drive, but he started again after while and as level of fuel was under the all red lines, he said its a fuel and I did believe it. He went to petrol station and for another 15 min van didnít cut out even once. I was sure it was fuel and said Ill take it. I came next day, put my bike in back and drive very gently as i didnít want to damage my bike. After 45 min ride home engine cut off and after while i started again and start to being suspicious. I did get home, put the bike out and went for proper test. And this story just begin.

I found out, that every time when i was trying to hardly accelerate from 1800 RPM to 3000 engine did cut out or accelerate very slowly. Clutch was working in very last end what i was recon ok as i was driving another van with same clutch for over year. I called the guy who sold it to me but of course there were no answer. I went to garage next day, mechanic find out half of fuel filter was just air, put it on [£50!!!] and the van stopped to cutting out. After first problem resolved I could still feel that for 100 bhp van it has still poor power but before i could spend more money to pay someone cheaper to find reason, 4 days later was the clutch gone. £650. Clutch done, but still no power, I found this forum [thanks all the guys which helps here every day]. No power = Mass air flow sensor, so I have take air filter down try to take maf out but before I tried that, I found 2 holes made by engine touching this pipe just after maf burned. I used tape from my work. Van start to go much better but i still felt its not it. One screw from air filter on top of plastic box was missing, I had no clue what that could means to power of this van. It was for hole time on front of my nose. Sorted. Engine went perfect and that was the best opportunity to show me another defect. Happy from acceleration, i put the foot down and van was increasing revs but not the speed. I get used to it, that noise when I pass humps on left side its just in price and didnít connected. Middtime I bought a new speedo, and surpricely find out, that STOP light is on and ECU light is flashing. Take all screws from old speedo out and find out, that some smart person ripped this LEDs off. Called Renault and been told that I shouldnít drive it at all [after 3000 miles which i already done]. I have spend another £150 in Renault service for telling me that ECU memory remember, high pressure pump - wrong signals [guessing fuel filter] and maf sensor wrong signals [guessing holes or that I plug it off couple of times] They washed the van, told me nothingís wrong, payment successful, bye]

Week later i miserably went to another garage as I couldnít find the answer with my torch for the last problems. Strong noise when passing humps with left front wheel and clutch as it was acting time to time as it is slipping - revs were increasing but speed not. [After 2 months they installed the new one]. When I was waiting there, and there were trying to send me home that itís not the clutch [after test when the van was of course for those 5 min works perfectly and I had looked like an idiot] I goggled on my phone 1 answer for both questions. oil in transmission. There were 2 litres of oil missing - £20 problem. Van works perfect now, I had many troubles from beginning, but I still love him. Good luck and donít give up.
