If you don't like the feature, you can disable it. Put the card in the slot but don't start the engine, then press and hold the 'unlock' side of the switch until you hear a beep (models with the voice synth say something along the lines of 'automatic locking disabled.')
Switching back on is the same, but pressing the 'lock' side of the switch.
Bearing in mind the increase in carjacking, and the fact that crooks will have stuff out of your car while you're stopped in traffic, it's not a bad feature to have enabled. The only argument against it is that it could cost vital seconds if the emergency services have to get you out of the car after an accident, though I maintain that after a life-threatening smash, there's a good chance that they wouldn't be able to get the doors to open, even if they were unlocked.
