Im looking to buy a clio dci 65 as my current car (MG ZR) is drinking petrol now ive started doing 300 miles a week. I have a very limited budget (as im a final year uni student) and i only have about 2 grand to play with. The trouble is, all the clio dci's ive come across are what i would consider 'high milage'. This may be because ive had petrol cars in the past but in my price bracket im looking at 100,000 miles.

How long do these engines last?
Any other issues at 100,000 miles?

Its not a permanent car and ill probably only have it for a year or two but i need something that wont give me much trouble.

Thanks for any replies

Re: Recomendations

Hi Harry and welcome.
I'm not much of an expert on Clio diesels, however as long as the car has been well maintained wouldn't have thought there would be much of a problem.

As for the mileage, 100k isn't much for any engine these days. ( My Clio Mk1 1.2 petrol had 165k on when sold & still ran great)

Hopefully someone that is knowledgeable about the Clio dci can comment further.

Re: Recomendations

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I'd definately agree with Steve,it's not so much the mileage you should be worrying about,it's the history of the car and how regularly it's been serviced that should concern you.100,000 motorway miles will wear an engine less than 10k pottering to the shops and back once a week,as long as the service history is up together I wouldn't be concerned about a car with higher miles on it.

As for buying a second hand car that 'won't give you much trouble',that is pretty much pot luck, although at least your doing the right thing and researching things before buying.

Re: Recomendations

Thanks for the replies and for the welcome.

The car im looking at is a 51 reg, 97,000 mile one lady owner from new car in what appears to be (from auto trader pictures) stunning condition. There is no mention of service history but i will ask the dealer when i go and look at it. I think a clio DCI is defiantly the car i want to go with, the mpg figures speak for themselves really. I also understand the power can be transformed with a remap, which is something i may consider doing as the DCI 80's seem to be hard to come by in my price range.

Does just shy of 2000 seem a fair price for the said car?

Thanks again,

Re: Recomendations

Well the car looks to be in perfect condition, apart from a rip on the bolster of the drivers set. It really is immaculate. Unfortunately, the seller said he's still waiting on the history to be sent on from the previous owner, so there is no proof of service history. This worries me a little mainly because theres no telling if the cam belt has been changed. Is this an expensive job?

Maybe best to steer clear?
