Anyone know what this is?

I have recently bought another Scenic. I have found this part in the car and don't recognise it? and have no idea what it is? any of you guys have any ideas?

It's a circular rubber that is bolted to a steel carrier.

Sorry the picture quality isn't very good. It's a really old camera I have and I always have problems trying to get close ups in focus!

Re: Anyone know what this is?

Thanks that makes sense I noticed the nut was missing on the top mounting? but I guess this car has this thing fitted instead then?

I have bought the car as a non runner the cam belt had previously gone and the last owner had a new cam belt kit fitted by a garage. Obviously a pointless exercise as all the valves where bent. But saves me the expense of buying a new belt kit.

When they couldn't get it run the garage then left it with one or 2 things still left in the boot air filter cylinder blanking plugs, wheel arch liners etc. I just couldn't see where this was supposed to go? It's not on the other Scenic's we have they just have a 16mm nut on the engine mounting. Which is what I would have fitted.

But as you have now enlightened me I will re fit it hopefully after I get the cylinder head back on it tomorrow.

Re: Anyone know what this is?

It looks like some sort of tensioner/idler ......... possibly having been replaced when the timing belt was done ?
I've lightened a couple of the pics a tad to try and see if anyone else can positvely identify it.
