Super unleaded fuel

I always thought that super unleaded fuel only needed to be used for high performance cars.

But I saw an advert for Optimax (i think), which showed the rear of a car with a 1.6 badge which was crossed out and a 1.8 badge stuck on. They claim that it can give your car the power of a car with a 200cc bigger engine.

Has anyone tried this fuel on a non-sports car? I have a Clio RSi 1.6 16v 111bhp, and I'm wondering if it's really gonna make that much difference. I.e. More performance, better fuel economy?

I use the bp super unleaded in my lag 2 V6. i find it gives smoother acceleration than the 95 octane.

Theoretically, only cars that are set-up for 95 RON, or can adapt by having a knock sensor fitted, should be able to benefit. However, my personal experience is sharper response and smoother pickup than Tesco Value

I think Top Gear did a test which confirmed an increase in BHP on a couple of models so there is definately something in it

You now have a choice of:

BP Ultimate
Shell Optimax

Shell are also about to launch, or are in the process of launching, V Power, which is 99 RON
