Megane 1 - headgasket gone. what shall i do?

Hi, i bought a magane coupe 1.6e off ebay a month ago, needed a wheel bearing and driveshaft for MOT done that, past no problems.

yesterday the headgasket went as well as the starter motor has started sticking.

Im unsure what to do, i dont really have much money to get it fixed and i might not even need the car after christmas.

any ideas? thanks

Difficult one really.
You might be better off cutting your losses and put it back on ebay .

A tricky one to answer, in all honesty.

The starter motor could be swapped over by a reasonable home mechanic, using a secondhand part (access might be a bit difficult though). The HG definitely would need the intervention of a garage.

You really have 2 main choices - keep & repair the car; or sell it.

Keeping it, will probably be the more expensive option, as I'd guess you've spent less than 1000 in buying it (as it was a car without an mot / only had a short mot), then it's value won't have dropped by a huge amount - the fact its got a full mot now, would help.

You can sell it complete, or if you have the space/time & inclination, sell the bits which still work - which could possibly give you a profit.

But what will be the best choice for one person, won't necessarily work for the other, plus it also depends how 'good' the rest of the car is, so you can decide what action to take.

First thing I'd do is price a secondhand starter, and contact a few garages for quotes for the HG repair, then you can make an informed choice.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
