Over the years I have tried various types of portable vacuum cleaners and the only one that really cleaned cost £3000 - yeh it is specialised and is used in nuclear plants and computer factories and is carried on a back pack. I have found it better to buy a decent extension lead and use a cylinder vacuum with the attachments. The portable ones just tend to move the dirt around and instead of being cleaning the inside of your car it just looks different. Worse still they definitely wont remove dust and fine grit (especialy sand) ingrained in the carpet.
We have a small rechargeable one at home and is only used to clean up crumbs after a meal and it even struggles at that.
