thanks for the replies! honestly I have no idea why the emergency is duff though it was a CAT D when i bought it. I'm pretty sure i tested at somepoint in the last 5 years but cant say 100%

as for breakdown, I've had a locksmith try and get into it and he couldnt get in. Im sure RAC have a few tricks but dont want to pay out 40 for them to come by and just offer to tow me to a garage.

I can get a window off ebay for less than 20 and have done it before on an older 306 so am happy to have a go.
