Hi there, I believe the sensors use microwaves (as they are more reliable than ultrasonic beams for convertibles). Rather than switching them off (which renders your car vunerable to vandalism/tax disc theft, and may also have insurance implications), you may wish to get the dealer to adjust the sensitivity, so that only solid objects (like a hand) triggers a response.
An auto electrician (if the car's out of warranty) would be able to carry this out for you, I'm sure.
