That old electric window problem

I have a Laguna II tourer with a front electric window that stops and starts working with loud clunking noises. I have attempted to remove the door trim by undoing the 2 bottom screws and the one behind the door latch, but the the panel wil not budge.
By removing the speaker I can see through the small round hole the window glass and motor. I have tried holding both switches for several seconds but nothing really changed. I am left with the window almost shut but for 5mm, just enough for rain to get in! Any further pulling of the switch does nothing, if I hold it down it will in a few seconds move slightly down but not all the way. Anybody know how to fix this or at least get to the problem by removing the door trim.
