I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but a set of pads should last around 30,000 miles - the discs are normally replaced if they have worn, or the pads have worn so far, that they have scored the discs.

Also, when the clutch first started slipping, it really was your responsibility to bring this to the dealer's notice - continuing to use the car wouldn't help the matter, and could only lead the garage to draw the conclusion that you didn't have any care for the car.

In all honesty, (and many reading this thread will probably be nodding their collective heads) - if I was looking at this case (in my previous capacity), I would assess the wear on the clutch, and the brakes, and would probably state that a smoother and more mechanically sympathetic driving style would've avoided this. (Unless your car has covered more than 30,000 miles in its first year - but since you've only just reached the first service point, I doubt that).

Are you still on the first set of tyres?

I was your age (believe it or not), and I can fully remember the thrill of driving quickly - but it does come with a price.

Hope this didn't sound too much like a lecture.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
