I looked at the wiring diagram for my scenic in the haynes manual and the feed to the mirrors goes from the battery, via a 60 amp fuse, then a 15 amp fuse , then direct to the mirror switch.
it doesn't go near the ignition switch.
So if the fault is drawing enough current to melt the wiring/switch why doesn't either the 15A or the 60A fuse blow? I know it must be drawing more than 15A for it to catch fire as it must be a dead short
