I looked at the wiring diagram for my scenic in the haynes manual and the feed to the mirrors goes from the battery, via a 60 amp fuse, then a 15 amp fuse , then direct to the mirror switch.
it doesn't go near the ignition switch.
Thanks Roy for finding the fuse rating. In earlier posts we were having trouble finding the correct fuse - lack of haynes manuals to blame!.
- I agree with you on the size of wire and the possible reasons for the fire. A 15A fuse will happily allow 15A to flow continuously (just about) - the fuse does not know if these 15A are being used by the mirrors or to add fuel to the fire....
For the 15A fuse to blow, it will need a current of 25A for 1 second or even 60A for 0.1 Seconds. Sounds a lot, but there is a battery with more than enough capacity supplying this to the rather small wires connected downstream of the fuse.
