Thanks Roy for finding the fuse rating. In earlier posts we were having trouble finding the correct fuse - lack of haynes manuals to blame!.

Fireball - I agree with you on the size of wire and the possible reasons for the fire. A 15A fuse will happily allow 15A to flow continuously (just about) - the fuse does not know if these 15A are being used by the mirrors or to add fuel to the fire....

For the 15A fuse to blow, it will need a current of 25A for 1 second or even 60A for 0.1 Seconds. Sounds a lot, but there is a battery with more than enough capacity supplying this to the rather small wires connected downstream of the fuse.
