I was once asked to do a demo, where audible (from a distance) sound was required from a Psion Organiser II. I wired a 3.5mm jack socket across the wires for the piezo sounder and it ran the external amp and speaker fine. The interesting side-effect was that when the Psion wasn't generating any sound, you could speak into the piezo speaker and it worked like a microphone.

I'm not convinced that it's a piezo in the Lag reversing unit anyway, as the sound quality of the beep is much too 'full.' I suspect there's a real speaker in there instead.

Another possibility would be to relocate the box to somewhere that isn't so muffled. When I installed the parking sensor in the Clio, I put the sounder behind the dash on the driver's side. It's much louder than the one in the Lag.
