The only concern I have is if it will actually work in the event of a collision.
Well, the only way to be 100% is to drive the car into a solid object
But joking aside, the system self-tests at every start-up (that's why the light illuminates, and then should
go out - if all is well). Any fault causes the light to stay on.
The best method to ensure that you never need the airbag, is to drive in a mature manner (reading the road ahead), and not sit too close to the steering wheel (as this was one of the reasons why airbags were fitted to cars, but ironically, they can cause injury if you sit too close, and hit the bag before it starts to deflate).
All the best with your swapping over, take some pictures and post them once the jobs done.
This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
