Hello and welcome to the forum.
It sounds like a coolant temperature sensor fault......
They won't often through up a fault on a code read,but if the car is run from cold though to warm and the live data from the
is read at at this time,it should be obvious wether the sensor is reading correctly all the time.
The trouble with a lot of garages is that if a fault code is not recorded,they don't go through the next steps to see if everything is working as it should.Just because no codes are present doesn't mean that there isn't fault!.
Also,have you ever had any problems getting it through an MOT on emissions?
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
