Just an update following some work done at the weekend:

Bottom ball joint replaced, all bolts removed easily & wheel wobble gone

Front discs & pads replaced, even the torx bolts retaining the disc came out

Full beam not working - tracked back from the bulbs & problem was the column switch

Windscreen washers not working - started at the column switch & that was the problem

(is this a common problem on Renaults ?)

The heater is working & giving hot air, but it wasn't red hot, so it looks like the colling system needs a flush

Handbrake problem :- following stripping of rear brakes it seems the adjusters were not adjusted correctly & the handbrake adjuster had been used for rear brake adjustment. (see my other thread) The shoes were in good condition

Timing belt etc can wait until it's passed an MOT.

Thanks for the advice so far, and I Renault have sent me a owners manual for a '97 Clio, though I think I need a '96 as the dash is different
