Edit: Quick re-read - it sounds like the AA man has gone through the engine fusebox but possibly not the interior one. This is in the end of the dash via a little door that's only accessible with the driver's door open. This is the one where you need exceptionally small hands to get at the fuses
Thanks Horatio for those two tips, I didn't know the whereabouts of either of these.

I'll go check the one by the ash now, with the car in the garage not sure if the door will open wide enough to give access to the small hand job. OMG what am I saying.
BTW you are correct, the AA guy only checked under the bonnet.
Oh flipping heck, I need my Avo now, I wonder where my wife's put that.
