Hot to Lock Modus via Passenger Door With Non-Electronic Key (or Flat Key Battery)??

Suppose I have a flat battery in my original blip-locking key, or a plain key without electronics. Locksmiths can supply a plain key for about 50, whereas a central-locking key is 151 (Timpson) or 180 (Renault).

With the plain key cut the same way as the original (but no electronics) ...

a) Will it start the car?

b) I know how to get in via the front passenger door, but how do I lock all the doors securely? Operating the key (even an original Renault flip key with blip locking) in the front-passenger door (clockwise or anticlockwise) does not centrally-lock all the doors. Or am I using the wrong technique? Presume the key hole is in the passenger door due to original LHD design? Thanks.
