Thanks everyone for the hints but still would like to know where the relay is
Relay 21 on the
fuse box is the Starting Inhibition Relay.
It seems the
controls the activation of the starter using inputs from the card reader, the start button, the gearbox and clutch switches.
It seems the start drive comes from connector BE pin B3.
The manual states that ...
'Note:- certain vehicle failures originating in the Renault card reader, the clutch pedal or Neutral position sensors can modify engine starting. In this case, the starter motor is supplied by continuous pressure on the engine start push button'
I guess the starter solenoid will be built into the stater motor itself.
