I think it was a software upgrade not any actual physical world. Could be wrong.
Ring Renault UK customer service and they will tell you.

The handbrake a are seriously prone to problems I think due to brake callipers seizing. Manual handbrakes are the way you normally notice handbrake on way out, but electric system won't flag the calliper until it kills the motor.
Was a company on eBay that refurb a the motor box for 150
