Laguna II alarm and rear lock problems

Hi and thanks to the previous articles that I read on the Forum that helped me to cure my Lag's problem.

I have a 2003 Initiale Sport Tourer and in the middle of the night last week the alarm went off. When I went to reset the alarm it wouldn't let me - just got that whining alarm sounding on the inside (that usually means that a door is open or sensor has been triggered). Also, the graphic display was telling me that the boot was open when it wasn't.

To cut along story short, and with the help of other Forum postings, the problem all stemmed from the drain hole at the base of the hatch's glass. There is a drainage tube at the back of that hole - it had come off = rainwater drips onto wiper motor then falls onto the hatch and glass switches - bith are electrical and in shorting do 2 things - they stop working and tell the alarm and graphics that the hatch/glass has been opened whilst alarm was set. Result is the alarm going off.

The cure:
- as I couldn't open the hatch or glass, I was able to prise both electrical switches (over rear registration plate) out using a flat screwdriver
- pull off wiring loom plugs
- both switches are easy to split open and dry off. Soft wire brush the contacts as they had started to corrode
- this at least allows the hatch and glass to open
- then remove the 8 or so circular black plastic retainers to release the interior cover to the hatch (twist fixings with a screwdriver then, as the heads raise, pull out)
- Remove wiring loom plug from rear wiper motor, remove the three 10mm bolts and remove wiper motor
- pull the drainage tube from the hatch (it may have come off already or might just be leaking
- thoroughly wipe entire area to dry
- Check drainage tube and fittings are not blocked, dry it at its ends
- refit drainage tube and seal with silicone sealant
- secure drainage tube's L bend to hatch spigot by drilling small hole on hatch (hatch is fibregalss) and fitting a cable tie
- refit wiper motor, reconnect all loom plugs
- I also hot glues a small sheet of plastic to the hatch internals - just above the 2 lock switches - that way IF the pipe leaks again water will not affect switches and trigger alarm
- job done.

It sound a lot of work but it's a doddle. Any probs pls email me on

Good luck
