brightening speedo display

Thanks many, Donald. After almost two years of ownership you have shown me a rheostat I had not known existed! Much thanks. I had never even SEEN it til your post. It is shown, vaguely, in the driver's layout diagram in the driver's manual. But not mentioned in the text. For that you have to go to the "lights" section, once again if you know where to look and for what! A tiny note nearby tells you it dims the display lighting. Bad news for me is that it adjusts the WHOLE display and then only while the lights are on.

My problem is that the radio's digital display is the only item that is dim (day and night) and can only be seen (vaguely) in very dim or dark conditions! I think [hope] the fault is due to ageing of contacts on the printed circuit sheet at the back of the speedo. It is not the backlight bulbs as I had already looked at them.

Thanks again for your lead!
