It is clearly an earth problem on that side of the vehicle. ((% of the time problems of this nature are caused by a poor earth return.
Stoplights have a common circuit in most cases which is why they still function.
Get a small lenth of wire and connect it to the earth part of the rear side/light cluster or bulb contact, connect the other end to a good earth and it will probably work!
I should have added, that will prove the fault - so then find where the earth contact has broken down.
