I used a wheel brace (and a jack) to get a bit more torque on the lower stub, as I said I wouldn't advise using a spanner as it's a bad fit (nearer 21mm than 22mm) - so it might slip. The replacement shocks are unbranded Feu Vert (like a French Halfords) which were about half the price of Monroes. Only other problem was that I found the exhaust restricted access on the drivers side (LHD).
